Master Title

EFFICACY OF EXERCISE ON CORRECTING FEMALE’S POSTURAL KYPHOSIS AFTER PUBERTY

Master Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of exercise on correcting female's postural kyphosis after puberty. Thirty patients after puberty complained from postural kyphosis (diagnosed by gynecologist/ orthopedist and confirmed by Formetric II instrument) from Al- Khazendara Nursing School in Cairo participated in this study. Their ages ranged from 13 to 18 and their thoracic kyphosis angle was more than 40 degrees and less than 60 degrees. These patients who complained from postural kyphosis evaluated by the Formetric II instrument in spinal shape analysis laboratory at the Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University, were examined before and after performing an exercise program for 6 weeks. The obtained results showed a statistically highly significant difference (P<0.01) in thoracic kyphosis angle and trunk length in their condition before and after the performance of the exercise program, and a positive correlation was found between thoracic kyphosis angle and the trunk length measuring before performing the exercises (r=0.960; p<0.01) and after it (r= 0.772; p< 0.01). Accordingly, it could be concluded that the exercise is very effective in correcting female's postural kyphosis after puberty. Key words: Postural kyphosis, Female, Puberty, Formetric II, Thoracic Kyphosis, Trunk Length.

PHD Title

Efficacy of Antenatal Exercises on Mode of Delivery in Obese Women

PHD Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of antenatal exercises on mode of delivery in obese women. Eighty obese primipara women at 12 weeks’ gestation (diagnosed by obstetrician and confirmed by ultrasonography) selected from the Out-Patient Clinic of the Obstetric Department at Bolak Abu-El-Ala Hospital. Their ages ranged from 25 to 30 years old and their body mass index ranged from 30 to 35 kg /m2. Participants were divided randomly into two groups equal in number, each consisted of 40 pregnant women, Group (A) which consisted of the Exercise participants, performed the exercise program from 12 to 42 weeks of pregnancy. Group (B) which consisted of Control participants, continued their ordinary life style after giving them specific advice for each trimester from 12 to 42 weeks of pregnancy. The obtained results showed that there was a statistical significant difference (P=0.05) in the mean value of last BMI between the Control Group participants and the Study Group participants also there was a statistical significant difference (P=0.05) in number of participants who had normal delivery in the study group compared to the control group after performing the exercise program. Neonatal variables such as APGAR score at 1st and 5th minute of life showed a statistically highly significant difference (P=0.05) between the neonates of both groups also there was a statistical significant difference (P<0.05) in mean value of neonates weight after performing the exercise program. Accordingly, it could be concluded that the antenatal exercise is very effective in shifting mode of delivery towards normal delivery in obese women. Key words: Obesity- Body Mass Index- Pregnancy- Antenatal Exercises- Mode of delivery- APGAR score- Neonatal weight.
